Magic Missile!
Lightning Bolt!
Here is a good site for NES ROMs. I recommend FCE Ultra for your emulator. Here’s another good site that explains what I’m talking about. Basically an emulator replicates video game consoles on your computer and lets you play ROMs. There’s a ROM for pretty much every Nintendo game ever made, and I recommend the Mario Adventures which can be found here. Someone hacked Mario 3 and made a completely new game out of it. The levels are actually challenging, and the features included are genius.
The first fifteen minutes of the new Metal Gear Solid are on G4, and I can’t wait to play it. Link
Fark.com is something everyone should know about. Odd news stories summed up in hilarious captions with links to the stories. Perhaps the best way to procrastinate at work in the morning, and it catches you up on news from all over the country.
Heard of Pandora? The Music Genome Project attempted to create an algorithm based on musical criteria so that when a user inputs a song or artist, similar artists are recommended. Pandora uses this to create specialized radio stations based on a song or artist. Enter your favorite band, song, or genre and you will most likely discover a lot of good bands you’ve never heard of all through free streaming internet radio. If you don’t like the selections you are getting you can narrow the criteria by rating the songs you get as thumbs up or down. Another good example is Slacker Radio.
Big Think is an interesting way to waste some time. It’s like YouTube for smart people.
Garfield minus Garfield. Who would have guessed that when you remove Garfield from the Garfield comic strips, the result is an even better comic about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and the empty desperation of modern life? Friends, meet Jon Arbuckle. Let’s laugh and learn with him on a journey deep into the tortured mind of an isolated young everyman as he fights a losing battle against loneliness in a quiet American suberb.
Another good Garfield parody comes from Lasagna Cat.
Wicked Awesome Films has some good short sketch comedy.
I don’t speak burrito!
ExtantDodo provides often humorous rebuttals to Kent Hovind’s propaganda. Hovind deserves to be in jail for his insane delusion he tries to peddle to people of faith as ‘science’, and in fact he is in jail for tax fraud with a 10 year sentence. Enjoy the critiques of his ridiculous creation science seminars.
Running2Win is a free online running log for all you distance runners out there. It’s pretty easy to use, and it gives me extra motivation to keep my milage up.
I am making preparations to brew my own beer, and this site is a handy reference. BTW, Three Floyds is a local brew pub down the street from my hometown, and it has some of the best beers I’ve ever had. Recently they released the infamous Dark Lord, and it lived up to the Hype. I had an Alpha Klaus the other night and it was perhaps the best Christmas Porter I could imagine. The Surly Klaus on draught at the pub was also amazing.
Here’s a few tech websites that I peruse frequently:
CNET – Good for product reviews, as well as their informative articles and blogs. There are a ton of tutorials on things from keeping your computer safe with free software to ripping files off of your iPod. They also have the CNET channel for those of you who can’t read, but then again you would have no idea what I am saying right now. Others: Wired, TechRepublic, Gizmodo
